Gerry Donovan Memorial Scholarship

Gerry Donovan was an athlete, volunteer and builder who died in January 2016. He competed provincially, nationally and internationally, as a runner, a cyclist, a cross-country skier, a swimmer and a triathlete. Gerry entered the first St. John's Triathlon and subsequently competed in 30 consecutive annual races, the only athlete to have done so.

This scholarship is sponsored by the Nautilus Running Club and is valued at $1,000. It is presented annually to a deserving Newfoundland & Labrador resident who is currently enrolled in full-time post-secondary studies.


Eligibility
  • Must be a resident of Newfoundland as of September 2022
  • Must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution.
  • Must be an active athlete competing in Newfoundland & Labrador in one or more of the following sports:
    • Triathlon
    • Running
    • Swimming
    • Cycling
    • Cross-Country Skiing
  • Must demonstrate active community volunteer involvement for a minimum of one year prior to applying for the scholarship.

Requirements

  • Proof of enrolment in a post-secondary institution
  • Current resume including prior and current volunteer involvement, and a sports competition record. Resume should also include a personal statement, detailing academic background, athletic goals, career interests and community service. This must not exceed 500 words.
  • Two letters of recommendation (from employers, coaches, teachers, volunteer organizations, etc).
